Anyone know anything about the background check you get while applying for a RPAL?

I am wondering if the background check for an RPAL would be the same background check you would get while applying to a police force? The reason I ask is because I am signed up to go to college to help me become a Correctional Officer, but I just found out the OPP have taken over the background investigation for corrections Canada. Now I have never been arrested or charged and I have no criminal record, but I did one time get caught with a shady fellow who had weed on him (wasnt my weed and he told the cops that). So what Im wondering is if I receive my RPAL (I sent in the papers 2 weeks ago) should I be alright to pass a police background check? Or is the background check for firearms license less intense? I hope I made this clear enoiugh, I need make a decision ASAP as I dont want to waste 2 years of my life in school to be told I cant become a CX because of that incident. Thank you for any info you can give me
