Correctional officer?

I am trying to be become a correctional officer for the state of california. A few months ago, I was shopping at walmart and purchased several food items to bake a cake. Well as I was loading my groceries into the car, I noticed one little tube of food coloring was left behind and I did not pay for it. I thought of going back into the store and pay for it, but I was afraid I would look like an idiot. I'm sure u think this question is also but thought I would ask. Also i'm nervous about taking the test, is it hard is it different from the sheriff dept. test? Help!
