Will petty theft stop me from becoming a Correctional officer?

i was arrested today for petty theft. My court date isn't for another month and a half. Will this prevent me from becoming a correctional officer. I was arrested in California and i am applying in Arizona if that matters. The officer said id probably just pay a fine and my record would only be for 3 years. This is my first offense and i have the test for corrections in a week. Should i even go take it. Will this prevent me from getting any job or can i get it expunged. If so how long do i have to wait till i can do this. I was not the one who stole, it was my sister but she placed the items in my bag. I still got taken to police station and given a ticket.
