Is being a correctional officer that bad?? I am strongly considering becoming one for a county prison, and?

although most around me are supportive, there are people who just relay horror stories and say what a dangerous and bad job it is. I am also a female and slightly concerned about what I could be getting myself into. I'm 5'1 and 125lbs. My old college friend is trying to convince me to work as an correctional officer. I do not plan on doing this forever, but I would like to hear about what people with this experience think?? Is that THAT bad?
